What are OAE tests?

OAE tests are exams created by the Ohio Department of Education. Designed to test the knowledge of educators seeking initial licensure for their subject areas, the series of exams challenges teachers on both their content and professional knowledge. Required of all educators in the state, the OAE tests are not to be underestimated. OAE practice exams can help prepare test-takers for the real thing.

Who should take OAE tests?

Any aspiring teacher in Ohio who has completed a teacher training degree program should register for OAE exams. New teachers are perhaps the most common group who sign up for such tests, but educators looking to add a new licensure area to their resume should also register. Depending on how long it has been since the test-taker has studied a content area, OAE exam prep should be undertaken with fidelity.

What score do I need to pass OAE tests?

The computer-based OAE tests differ dramatically in length based on which assessment is taken. The scoring of these diverse exams, though, is quite similar. From physical education and dance to biology and business, a score of 220 is required to pass. In order to achieve such a score, OAE test prep should be taken seriously. It is often not enough to simply know the subject matter – test-takers need to familiarize themselves with the kinds of questions they'll face on the day of the real exam.

How to prepare for the OAE tests

There are a number of ways to study for OAE exams, but none are better than taking OAE exam practice tests through Exam Edge.
